2012 House Evaluation / Travel Tryout Process
The goal this year is to
have 2 travel teams formed at ages 10-15 and 1 travel team at
age 9. Each team will have 12 players. In
order to facilitate more equal evaluations of all players at the
various age levels, we will be conducting the 4th - 7th grade
house evaluations and 9U-15U travel tryouts for each age level
at similar times. Please see the links to the evaluation
date/times for both travel and house below. We are
conducting the evaluations as early as possible in order to give
our travel coaches more time to work with their teams before the
season starts the first week of May.
Please see the Playing
Up Rules for Travel Teams page for more info on our
association's rules on playing up an age level. House
players MUST register based on their current grade and are NOT
allowed to play up.
If you
would like to be a Travel Coach this year, please fill out a Travel
Coach Application and return it by Feb 5, 2012.

Tryout / Evaluation Details
The travel tryouts and 4th-7th grade
house evaluations will be done by a group of independent
evaluators hired by the Rogers Youth Baseball
Association. These evaluators have background in
playing/coaching baseball at the high school/college level as
well as being part of evaluations for other communities.
All players will be given a score based upon the following
criteria:
- Infield grounders -
fielding form / throwing form (35%)
- Fly balls - catching
form / throwing form (15%)
- Hitting swing form /
bat speed / contact (45%)
- Running - timed run
of 90 feet (5%)
- Pitching - pitching
form / accuracy / speed (Note: Pitching is not counted
in the player's overall score but may be factored into final
coach's selections)
After the first session of travel
tryouts are completed, ALL players who registered for a travel
league must come back for a 2nd session of tryouts. Based
on final scoring results from session one and the numbers of
registered players, there may be some of the
highest scoring house players invited to come back for the 2nd
session of travel tryouts giving them the opportunity to make a
travel team. House players invited back to the 2nd
session of travel tryouts will receive a phone call from the
Rogers Youth Baseball travel director informing them of this
opportunity. Players then need to choose whether
they want to come back for the 2nd session of travel tryouts and
be considered for making a travel team. Please see our FAQ Page for
answers to questions about Travel vs. House.
After the 2nd session of travel
tryouts are completed, the travel coaches will use the
evaluator's scores to make final choices for each travel team.
Players names that have made a
Travel team for the 9U - 15U age groups will be posted on the
Rogers Area Youth Baseball website as soon possible.
Any players not making a travel
team will automatically be registered into their corresponding
house league based on their current grade.
NOTE:
If a 2nd, 3rd, 8th or 9th grader tries out for a travel
team and is NOT chosen for any travel team, then they MUST attend the Majors
(2nd-3rd grade) or 8th-9th Grade house evaluations which are
held outside in April or early May. See the house evaluation
date/times link above for exact evaluation location/dates/times.
Travel
Tryout Scores Review Process
Rogers Area Youth Baseball
keeps all tryout forms as well as the overall ratings of all
participants in each age group. If you have specific
questions on your child's tryouts ONLY, please feel free to
write to the baseball board (info@rogersyouthbaseball.org) to
request a review of your child's tryout scores.
4th,
5th-6th & 7th Grade House Team Draft Process
After all travel teams are
chosen, the 4th - 7th grade house coaches will be given the
complete house league player list along with their scores from
the independent evaluators. The 4th, 5th-6th and 7th grade
house coaches will conduct team drafts using the independent
evaluators scores as well as any of their own feedback they
gather at the evaluation.
Majors
(2nd-3rd grade), 8th-9th & 10-12th Grade House Team Draft
Process
After the Majors, 8th-9th
grade & 10-12th grade house evaluations are held in
April/early-May, the coaches for these leagues will get together
and hold draft sessions to split the players up into
teams. The goal here is to spread the talent evenly
amongst the teams to make the most competitive house leagues as
possible.
